Rememberance

Jewish plaques in Berlin photograph

Everywhere you walk in Berlin you’ll find these bronze plaques embedded in the footpaths outside apartments. They have the names, birth dates, deportation dates and destinations of the people that lived there engraved on them. I don’t need to say much more. This one is on the footpath outside a kindergarten down the street from my place.

A sobering and respectful reminder to a very recent past in German memory. I find them very sad and very beautiful at the same time.
