Damon
is on the cusp. He’s 18 and about to head off into the big bad world and take up his journalism course in Sydney. He’s grown up here in Byron Bay and also spent a lot of his childhood travelling the world with his mum. I photographed this lovely, charming, beautiful young man when I arrived here yesterday, with Glenn, his Dad, and Jane, his mum.

Byron is beautiful, by the way. I have never seen so much green in one place in Australia in a long time, maybe Tasmania is about the only other place I can think of. My Grandfather used to always say Forster was God’s country, but I think this pocket of the world might have pipped it.
I’m here now for a couple of nights. I’m taking the day off the computer and photographing other people to take a day to celebrate….me for a change! I’m turning the ripe old age of 34 tomorrow, and I think an exploration of the nearby hinterland is on my radar.
