This week I was awarded the 2011 ACT AIPP Epson Professional Photography Awards runner up Family Photographer of the Year.
I’m absolutely wrapped. It’s a tough gig, to have my work assessed against incredible competition. In celebrating this fantastic announcement, it is appropriate to showcase the latest family I have been working with.
Kate rang to ask about having an update to the family photograph done. I warned her that yes, I could take the formal family portrait, but that I could do a lot more than that. To be honest, if family photography was just about getting a record of what people look like, I wouldn’t be in this game. I see family photography as an opportunity for so much more.
Kate and I scrolled through my blog and looked at past results. I said we could certainly create the group shot she was after as an update from four years ago…and then I could stay on and spend some time with them. They were all coming together from various places, and her dad Mick’s life has taken an unexpected turn. So it was perfect to use me at this point in time to capture their family soul.
Introducing… (insert drumroll) …the Kennedy clan.
The formal family photograph.
It’s actually really lovely, and what I would consider the starting point in celebrating this awesome family.
They have ordered this as a centrepiece print, to be framed.
Then…
Somebody’s trying to sing, it’s really not working and everybody thinks that’s hilarious.
Then the action starts.
Beautiful boy.
The light sprinkles down from above.

She killed it.
Lisa’s laugh and the gentle hands are what makes this work.
She’s got her fingers wrapped right round that little sausage leg.
Handsome hubby.
These are really special to have.
Little Samantha just couldn’t go on…sleep time was sacrificed for family and photographs.
The one on the left would look amazing by itself on the wall, at about 16×24″ size I reckon (about A2). It’s magnetic.
Totally unprompted from me I swear!
It was an attempt to raise Samantha’s spirits.
I love the intensity in this.
Rueben struck me as being very sensitive and aware of others, he had a very caring nature.
Grandpa’s…they have so much time for little ones.
Sometimes the beauty is in the detail.
Enter giggle-pot Jai, he was up for some craziness with Skye.
Even pulling up a two year old’s pants can make a sensitive picture.

I just love these.
There is something of each person’s personality in each frame.

I could have hung out all day with the Kennedy clan.

When you view your collection, we will work out a package of items that suit your decor and budget. The Kennedy’s took a collection of 8×12″ prints (A4 size) to divide up across the family, the large wall print as the centrepiece, and some calendars. They loved every piece that they picked.
Kate passed on a little conversation that she had with her mum, that I want to share:
‘Looking at your photos and the collection has opened her (Tina’s) eyes to a new paradigm of photography. Each time she looked through the gallery, she’s loved all of them more and more – particularly the interactive photos with emotion as opposed the more traditional style of photo’.
That’s what it’s all about. A new paradigm where images are interactive and emotive…thanks so much Tina! … and thank you to the Kennedy clan for being open to a new possibility.
