Today I ran an event on my photo group where we went to Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island). From 1793 the island was used as a summer residence by King Frederick Wilhelm II and his wife. Wilhelm III added a farm and menagerie to it. The animals were eventually moved to Zoologischer Garten but the avery and the free-roaming peacocks remained. In 1990 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Accessing it was super easy, we took a train to Wannsee then cycled for 15 mins or so to the little ferry. We spent an hour or so wandering around the island, taking photos and enjoying the sun then settled in for some late afternoon fare before heading back to the city.

This Austrian dessert is called Germknödel.
Traditionally people eat it after a day skiing.
It’s a yeast dumpling with a spicy plum sauce inside.
It’s sprinkled with poppy seeds and melted butter is drizzled over it.
It was one of those great days out, the weather was stunning, the cycling was cruisy, the island was delightful and the company even better.
