Emma is studying in her final year studying acting at the Victorian College of the Arts. When she first started there a couple of years ago, we went out and created this body of work. It’s a great exercise for her to go through, performing something out and having it photographed. She can look objectively at herself and can see how her performance can come together visually.
The Race was written and performed by Emma. She had the audio playing while she performed. How amazing is her voice? Given the elements I had – minimal set design, plain black clothing and clean, easy lighting – I decided it had a montage potential. The result has come up really well! This would serve as a great actor promo piece for Emma, so there may be some product development as a result of this!
In any case I loved doing it – it was fun, creative and also helping Emma. People in their final year at VCA studying acting can take up this opportunity to create their own piece with me. Bring on more of it I say!
